Red Line Project Report Set for November 30 and December 13
Consultants for the Red Line Task Force of the Metro Transit Commission (MTC) will unveil a report a year in the making on how to fund and construct the Red Line Rail Economic Development Project from Charlotte to Mooresville.
Sessions have been scheduled in Charlotte for a November 30th meeting with the Red Line Task Force and the MTC, followed by a public unveiling December 13th in Mooresville at the Charles Mack Center.
Referred to as the most significant Mecklenburg County public/private economic development project in 20 years, the dual benefit (transit and freight) corridor is expected to attract over $4 billion in private capital and generate over 23,000 jobs over a 20 year buildout.
Much anticipation precedes hearing the financial and governance aspects of a combined commuter and freight rail concept, estimated to cost 358 million in current dollars. When the project goes "live" in 2017, the capital costs could be as much as $450 million, experts say.
