PROBLEM:  The I-77 Widening Task Force Summary has determined that I-77 between Charlotte and Statesville is the most congested and dangerous section of interstate highway in the Southeastern US.  There have been no additional through lanes of capacity added since initial construction in 1975. 


GOAL:
  To organize a concerted effort to raise priority of widening I-77 while mobilizing community and political support for a new funding strategy. 


WHO CARES:
  Concerned parties include: City of Charlotte, Huntersville, Cornelius, Davidson, Mooresville, Troutman, Statesville, MUMPO, LNRPO, Mecklenburg and Iredell Counties and both Legislative Delegations, NC Department of  Transportation and  the Federal Highway Administration

                        * Contact key individuals one on one and invite to serve, July-August, 2009.

                        * Organize working group, September 2009

                        * Gain historical and current status perspective, October 2009

                        * Convene workshop on new strategy, October-November 2009

                        * Working group adopts strategy, December 2009

                        * Present the ‘Case for I-77’ by emails, power point and speeches

                        * Meet with NC Department of Transportation Board, first quarter, 2010

                        * Meet with Iredell and Mecklenburg Delegations, first quarter, 2010
