Mitch Abraham, Mayor Pro Temp of Mooresville and a member of the LNTC, has agreed to lead an initiative to organize a seven municipality effort to obtain State and Federal funds to widen I-77 from I-485 to I-40, a distance of 31 miles.

Mitch will invite representatives of Statesville, Troutman, Mooresville, Davidson, Cornelius, Huntersville and Charlotte to get on board to develop a strategy for what is likely to be a long term effort, given current revenue challenges.

It may be that more progress can be made using a public and private approach, similar to the proposal advanced by Cornelius Bromont Corp which is planning to build the Augustalee project in Cornelius.  Bromont will advance up to $90 million to widen I-77 and other State and local roads, provided they can reach an agreement with Mecklenburg County to allow Bromont to be reimbursed from increased property taxes which Augustalee will produce.
