Davidson Mayor John Woods was elected chair of the Metropolitan Transit Commission (MTC) north/RED Line Task Force at the group’s first meeting in September.  The Task Force’s assignment is to breathe life into the commuter rail project which has been in jeopardy since revenues from the half cent tax for transit plummeted in late 2008.

“It’s critical for the MTC/CATS and the City of Charlotte to have a two line rail strategy, even though we don’t see clearly where the local matching funds would come from,” said Woods.   “This Task Force has a solid agenda and keeps the possibility of commuter rail alive, and that’s a good first step” he concluded.

Members of the Task Force include Woods, Jeff Tarte, Jill Swain, Jennifer Roberts, David Howard, Carroll Gray along with CATS and City of Charlotte staff.
