I      ATTENDANCE: Jenest, presiding, Travis, Smith, Ferguson, Russell, Bensman, Brice, Abraham, Gray.

Guests: Bill Thunberg, Gwen Cook, Tom Sykes, Eric Gorman, Geoff Steele

II     MINUTES OF AUGUST 10, 2011: Motion Smith, second Ferguson, approved as circulated.

III    RED LINE BIKEWAY PRESENTATION: Gwen Cook, of the Mecklenburg County Parks and Recreation Commission, presented a power point of a concept to construct a 12 wide bikeway from Mooresville to downtown Charlotte, a distance of more than 25 miles at a projected cost of $32 million. The bikeway would essentially parallel the Red Line rail. Cook emphasized that the detailed planning hasn’t been done, and many questions unanswered, such as funding sources. She requested LNTC support the planning phase, rather than endorsing the project, per se. Action: following considerable discussion and a motion by Brice, Further Action: it was recommended that Cook present the same

IV    COMMITTEE REPORTS *I-77 Widening/Abraham: According to NC DOT, the project (NC DOT I-5405) is funded, being engineered, and will be open for travelers in *Red Line/Bensman: Bensman expressed concern that the *Parkway/Travis: There is staff consensus on a route and cross *Corporate Partners/Smith: Efforts are continuing with Lowe’s to *Transit Benefit District/Ferguson: Work is ongoing with Red Line *Other: Diverging Diamond Interchange/Grant: Exit 28 interchange is 25 per cent engineered, with late 2012 opening; Brawley School
